'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of Swansea's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful strike from 25 yards, and the defender immediately converted the rebound before charging toward the home end to revel in the moment, with supporters swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This sealed an incredible recovery given Swansea had trailed 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. Amid the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win earned a fourth-round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's volley from about way out going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for having a go from that far out," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right defensive wing after Orient changed tactics. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the City players who praised the way the underdogs approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the simple things and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they are adept at control and slow down a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be focused every second of the game. It takes a strong mentality and concentration just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he reunited with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at League Two Salford, before he departed Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a slightly green going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the last several matches, including home and away games against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

It has been a remarkable path for the kid from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his parent, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Manchester United Experience

The player's sole appearance for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was closed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he recalls, smiling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "It was quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I felt I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the drivers, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to interact with the lads but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and on the road. His teammate is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would blend in with fans on the Tube after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
